The idea of this course is that if you do the activities outlined in the modules, by the time you finish the ten weeks you'll have a solid plot for your novel, an outline or first draft, a plan on how you're going to get the writing done, and a deeper understanding of craft and commercial fiction writing.
It's great for writers who are tackling their first novel, Nanowrimo participants, or authors with more experience wanting to tighten up their craft and plot for the market.
Brilliant author, you’re in the right place. Rock Your Novel School is PERFECT for you – you’ll get all the building blocks you need to take that idea in your head, bust through the procrastination and writer’s block, and get that story written.
Part of what I do around here is not just teach how to write/publish, but how to produce a book readers want to read.
Experienced authors enjoy my craft content because it helps them focus on creating commercially-viable projects to push their career forward. That's what this course is all about. If you're an experienced author, you'll particularly enjoy the modules with the detailed genre breakdowns and the more advanced story structure discussion.
You'll get instant access to 10 weeks of course content covering EVERY aspect of writing and editing a novel, including the hook, the characters, plot, structure, scenes, voice, emotion, productivity/getting the words done, editing, proofreading, and preparing for publication.
The course content is presented as video with full transcripts. Tutorials and supplementary material in video, audio, downloadable worksheets, quizzes...everything you can imagine.
Activities and action steps are geared toward your unique writing style. This course isn’t a “one-size-fits-all” prescription. It helps you find a method that works for YOU.
The content is designed to be done over a series of weeks, but it's available instantly so you can skip around and focus on the modules where you need the most help.
Of course! The content is available to you for the lifetime of the course through the online course portal.
If you’re writing novel-length fiction in any genre, this course is for you. If you’re writing fiction and you’d like to one day make a living as an author, hell yes, this course is for you. If you’re already publishing fiction but you want to improve your craft, hell to the double-plus yes.
If you’re writing narrative non-fiction? Yes – because narrative non-fiction is written using the same techniques as fiction, even though it’s true.
What about if you write other non-fiction? Or poetry? Or short stories? Or some other random thing? You will definitely get something out of the course – many of the skills will be relevant to all writers. But it’s really designed for novel writers, so not all of it will be applicable, and there are other course-providers who create more specific content for you.
I've designed Rock Your Novel School to offer activities and advice for both Pantsers and Plotters (or, as I prefer, Gardeners and Architects). I myself am a Pantser/Gardener, and I've been told people on this end of the plotting spectrum find my methods particularly useful.
Nothing in the course is prescriptive, and each module includes activities divided into different writing 'personalities' so you can follow your own path. There's even a handy writing style quiz to help you see where your strengths lie.
All you have to do is make a comment in the course platform and ask! I'm available throughout the course to answer your writing questions and dig your out of any holes you fall into.
